Krishna Rana, a 21-year-old resident of Giridih district, lost his life in a drowning incident at Dimna Lake on Wednesday. He was accompanied by nine friends for a day out. While swimming in the lake with his companions, he submerged and could not be saved due to the delay in receiving help. The group, comprising about nine young men employed as carpenters, had gone to Dimna Lake. Six of them entered the water to bathe. Krishna Rana, who entered the water last, suddenly began to drown in the deeper section of the lake. His friends attempted to save him but were unable to and had to retreat. The individuals present at the scene immediately contacted the police, but the police response was delayed. Rather than initiating rescue efforts, the authorities focused on preliminary questioning. After a considerable wait, fishermen arrived and recovered the young man’s body. Locals have expressed that the Dimna Lake area has witnessed multiple drowning tragedies in the past. Despite the history of accidents, there is a lack of lifeguards and warning boards in the lake area. After each incident, superficial measures are taken, whereas more effective arrangements could prevent such loss of life.
