In a major boost to security measures, Jammu and Kashmir Police detained a terrorist over-ground worker using facial recognition technology ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2025). The arrest occurred at the Langanbal Naka checkpoint near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district. The suspect, a resident of Seer Hamdan and previously implicated in a 2005 FIR, was identified by the FRS. He was working as a carpenter. The police handed him over to Police Station Pahalgam for further legal actions. This action highlights the effectiveness of technology in ensuring pilgrim safety, especially as security arrangements are being expanded. The authorities have increased electronic surveillance on the pilgrimage routes and implemented no-flying zones around the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, with the suspension of helicopter services for security reasons.
