New Delhi, May 28: Hours after Siddaramaiah resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister, BJP leaders accused the Congress of replacing democratic processes with an internal auction for the state’s highest office. The charge is part of a broader offensive aimed at questioning the opposition party’s internal democracy.

Gaurav Vallabh said the Congress has institutionalised a system where the leader who can mobilise the strongest internal support wins, likening it to competitive tendering. He asserted that Siddaramaiah’s position became untenable once a higher bid emerged from within the party.

Vallabh also challenged the INDIA alliance’s legitimacy, stressing that its constituents fight separate elections in several states. Without a genuine coalition, he argued, Rahul Gandhi’s leadership claim over the opposition grouping appears more aspirational than factual.

BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh emphasised the governance fallout. He said prolonged uncertainty has slowed civic works in Bengaluru, delayed administrative approvals, and left citizens facing mounting civic problems. Singh warned that unless the Congress resolves its internal disputes, Karnataka’s development trajectory will continue to suffer.
