Karnataka Government Highlights Joint Ownership of Namma Metro Ahead of Yellow Line Launch

With the eagerly awaited launch of the Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro approaching, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra through Electronic City, there’s a notable discussion regarding the recognition of the project. Karnataka officials are taking the opportunity to remind the public that the Namma Metro is a joint undertaking by the central and state governments, with both sharing equal responsibility. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Yellow Line on August 10, state leaders are emphasizing the state’s contribution to ensure the public acknowledges the collaborative nature of the project. The inauguration ceremony will take place at IIM Bengaluru, followed by a metro ride with key state officials, including the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The Deputy Chief Minister, also the minister in charge of Bengaluru, confirmed that both the state and central governments are invested in the metro project. He highlighted the collaborative effort in requesting the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Yellow Line. The focus, according to Shivakumar, is on serving the public, transcending the issue of credit. The Yellow Line, a 19.15 km stretch with 16 stations, cost Rs 7,610 crore to build. The state government will seek additional funds from the Prime Minister for the double-decker project’s land acquisition. Regarding the metro network’s expansion, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed the need for financial support from Members of Parliament. Safety is a priority, with the Yellow Line receiving clearance from the Commissionerate of Railway Safety on July 31. Initially, trains will run every 25 minutes, and frequency will be enhanced to 10 minutes once more train sets are available. The Deputy Chief Minister conveyed the state government’s gratitude to all those involved in the Yellow Line project.
