A fresh political storm brews in India’s capital over opposition demands for Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s removal, prompting NDA leaders to decry it as a blatant mockery of democracy. Their pattern of noisy interruptions, they say, jeopardizes the nation’s parliamentary process.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju provided a firsthand narrative of the confrontation. ‘Congress MPs, numbering 20-25, forced entry into Birla’s chamber amid provocations from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal. Only the Speaker’s leniency spared them repercussions,’ he disclosed.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal highlighted Birla’s exemplary neutrality. ‘Post-appointment, he’s steered clear of BJP gatherings to affirm his fairness. These attacks are unwarranted assaults on a revered position,’ Jaiswal contended.
Addressing Rahul Gandhi’s contentious book reference, Jaiswal noted official rejections. ‘Naravane and the publisher have clarified it’s unpublished. Rahul’s rhetoric is dismissed universally; this is mere BJP-bashing,’ he said.
JD(U) leader Sanjay Kumar Jha urged contrition. ‘Apologize, Rahul—the facts are undeniable. Sensationalism disguised as debate shows Congress opposing India itself,’ Jha accused.
Madan Rathore, BJP Rajasthan head, rejected Gandhi’s worldview. ‘He fabricates to damage prestige, especially PM Modi’s. This is shameful,’ Rathore stated.
As debates rage, the episode exposes deepening polarization, with NDA advocating for institutional respect amid turbulent sessions.
