Dulendra Patel, Raigarh. Hundreds of villagers in Khamhariya village of Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh today staged an indefinite strike. Frustrated with the poor condition of the village’s roads, the villagers staged a sit-in protest. Due to which a long queue of heavy vehicles has formed on both sides of the road.

The villagers have given an application to the Gharghoda SDM that even before this, a road blockade was done in Khamhariya on 2 August 2024, after which the company management of the area had given a written assurance to the villagers in front of the Tehsildar Tamnar that the road will be repaired immediately and made suitable for traffic and the road will be constructed after the rains. But till now the road repair work has not been done.

The villagers have stated in the application that earlier school buses used to come till Khamhariya, 6 to 8 passenger buses used to run. But due to bad road, all buses have stopped coming on this route. The villagers are facing a lot of problems regarding road facilities, due to which the villagers are forced to do Chakka Jam movement. The villagers have submitted applications to the sub-divisional officers, Gharghoda police station several times, but the road has not been repaired till now.

In this case, to solve the problem of the villagers, a letter has been issued by the SDM to 4 companies to complete the repair work of the allotted area as soon as possible.

Let us tell you, since Tamnar development block is in coal mining area, the roads here have become in a bad condition due to overloading of heavy vehicles. Due to the pathetic condition of the road during rainy season, many small and big accidents are happening. People from dozens of villages including Khamharia, Milupara, Urba, Pelma, Hinjhar, Kodkel, Semijor, Lalpur of Tamnar travel on this road. The villagers of Khamharia have again started a protest regarding this problem.
