Two individuals in Amravati, Maharashtra, set fire to a Mahavitaran sub-station on Monday in response to chronic power outages. The incident occurred at the Walgaon sub-station, where the youths used petrol to set ablaze furniture and equipment. According to eyewitness accounts, the youths confronted an engineer, voicing their discontent over the persistent lack of electricity supply in their area. An employee recorded the incident, suggesting the attack was premeditated. The arson caused extensive damage, including the destruction of vital documents and computer systems, and temporarily disrupted the sub-station’s operations. Consequently, more than six villages experienced power supply interruptions. Local residents have reported frequent power cuts in recent weeks. The police have initiated legal proceedings against the perpetrators, including charges related to attacking government employees, arson, and property damage. Authorities have launched a search for the suspects, who remain at large. Despite condemning the violent act, local residents have called on authorities to punish those responsible.
