Delhi experienced a moment of tension on Thursday morning as a loud sound, initially perceived as an explosion, was reported near the Radisson Hotel in Mahipalpur. Security forces, including police and bomb disposal squads, responded rapidly to the area. This swift action was a direct consequence of the ongoing high alert status, amplified by the recent deadly car bombing at the Red Fort. Fortunately, a comprehensive police investigation quickly debunked the bomb threat. Officials confirmed that the disruptive noise stemmed from a bursting tyre on a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus. The alert was raised by a passerby who heard the sound around 9:18 AM. Emergency services, including the Fire Department with three tenders, along with police and bomb experts, were deployed as a standard safety protocol. Subsequent local inquiries established the cause: the rear tyre of a DTC bus heading towards Dhaula Kuan had blown out. Authorities have since stated that the area is secure and the public need not worry. The incident occurred amid widespread security checks nationwide, a response to the November 10th terrorist attack near the Red Fort, which killed 12 people. The government has designated the Red Fort incident as terrorism, with the NIA now leading the investigation into the explosives and associated terror networks.
