Odisha is tightening its grip on illegal immigration after pinpointing 77 Bangladeshi nationals in the state. CM Mohan Charan Majhi shared the update in the assembly on Monday, fielding a question from BJP’s Padma Lochan Panda.
The operation adhered to MHA guidelines, with SPs across districts mobilized per the ministry’s May 2, 2025 letter to expedite migrant detection.
In a comprehensive check, documents of 2,261 potential illegals were vetted. A whopping 2,184 cleared as Indians post-verification. The 77 Bangladeshis were located mainly in urban hubs—26 in Bhubaneswar, 14 in Cuttack, six in Berhampur, four in Kandhamal, and singles or groups in other districts like Jagatsinghpur (21).
Deportations kicked off immediately: 73 expelled successfully. Two fraudsters with phony Indian passports are under judicial scrutiny via filed cases. Processes continue for the final duo in Bhubaneswar.
The government vows relentless pursuit of illegal foreigners, equipping police to analyze fiscal movements, chats, and digital signatures for airtight nationality confirmation. This drive exemplifies Odisha’s vigilant border management strategy, fostering safer communities.
