The NIA court has acquitted all individuals accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh and Lt. Col. Purohit. The verdict, delivered on July 31, 2025, came after 17 years. The accused were cleared of all charges related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. The court also stated that the prosecution did not successfully prove the bomb’s connection to the motorcycle. The court’s ruling includes compensation: Rs 2 lakh for the families of the six deceased victims and Rs 50,000 for each of the 95 injured. The court stated that terrorism has no religious affiliation. The verdict also highlighted that UAPA could not be invoked because the required sanctions were not obtained according to the rules. Advocate Shahid Nadeem, representing the victims’ families, announced plans to appeal the decision.
