India has reacted strongly to the abduction of three of its nationals in Mali, amidst a backdrop of escalating terrorist attacks. The Indian nationals were working at the Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes when they were seized during a raid on July 1. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that the government is in close contact with Malian authorities, seeking the safe and swift release of the kidnapped individuals. The MEA has confirmed that armed attackers attacked the factory and took the Indian employees. While no group has claimed responsibility, the al-Qaeda-linked JNIM has claimed responsibility for attacks on the same day. The Indian Embassy in Bamako is actively involved in the efforts, and the government has appealed to Indians in Mali to remain vigilant and seek assistance from the embassy.
