The Indian government is celebrating a major achievement in Manipur. The Kuki-Zo Council has agreed to open National Highway-2, a move coming before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit on September 13th. The decision to reopen the highway, along with other agreements focused on peace and stability in the state, follows discussions between the Kuki-Zo Council and the Ministry of Home Affairs. This advancement is of great importance, particularly as the Prime Minister is expected to visit soon. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been in talks with different factions implicated in the Manipur violence to promote peace. National Highway-2 is a vital transportation route for Manipur, linking Imphal with key areas like Kangpokpi and Churachandpur. The highway’s closure had impacted the movement of goods and people, particularly those residing in Churachandpur, which has a considerable Kuki community.
