The Karnataka Cabinet has approved an increase in the reservation for minority communities in state housing schemes, raising it from 10% to 15%. According to Minister HK Patil, this decision does not require the formulation of new rules. The minister specified that the expanded reservation applies to all minority groups, including Christians, Jains, and Buddhists. This decision prompted a sharp rebuke from BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, who characterized the move as “brazen” and “unconstitutional” on social media. Malviya alleged that the Congress government is employing this policy for political advantage, aimed at dividing communities and disrupting the social harmony of Karnataka. The change will be implemented across housing schemes administered by the state’s Urban and Rural Development Departments.
