Friday’s skies over Aizawl shimmered with the spirit of renewal as Chapchar Kut 2026, Mizoram’s cherished spring gala, burst forth in full splendor. Chief Minister Lalduhoma seized the moment to rally for solidarity, infusing the revels with a call to collective harmony.
The Mizo community’s crowning joy, this festival crowns the jhum cultivation phase—traditional land-clearing by fire. It signals spring’s embrace post-winter, promising abundance and fresh starts across nature and society. All join in the exuberance.
Clad in resplendent attire, youthful dancers enthralled with nonstop performances till dawn. Lalduhoma, as ‘Kut Pa,’ was hosted by Minister C. Lalsawiyunga (‘Kut Thlangtu’), honored by retired Governor V.K. Singh’s attendance. ‘Jo Nun Je Mawi – Inremna’ themed the harmony of cultural splendor.
From March 9’s ‘Kut Tlan’ opener, a week of wonders ensued: handloom handicraft fairs, agro-food demos and feasts, bloom spectacles, living Mizo exhibits, photography-painting showcases, and festival films.
Central Friday rites peaked the euphoria, luring global tourists and regional Mizos. The CM’s global outreach wished festive bliss, harking to ancestors’ peaceful rites sans discord.
A historic unifier, it mirrors the theme. Lalduhoma evoked societal pillars like ‘Chalrem’ and ‘Sauwei Tan,’ insisting fault ownership paves true accord.
In essence, Chapchar Kut 2026 pulsed with heritage’s heartbeat, urging Mizoram toward enduring unity amid modernity.
