The monsoon season has brought severe weather to many regions, leading to devastating consequences. In Himachal Pradesh, at least 43 people have died due to rain-induced events. Cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides have caused significant chaos. In response, the IMD has issued an orange alert for multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The onset of the monsoon on Friday led to widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion. Delhi has been placed under a yellow alert, with rain expected over the coming two days. The IMD has also issued warnings for intense rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh between July 5th and 10th; Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha from July 5th to 7th; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from July 7th to 9th; and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on July 6th. The Met Department indicates that the southwest monsoon will remain active over the western Himalayan region and plains over the next week. Affected areas include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh. Authorities advise residents to stay vigilant, heed the IMD’s weather updates, seek safe shelter, and avoid travel if possible. They also advise staying away from electrical sources.
