Parliamentary discord escalates as SP MP Ikra Hasan voices strong displeasure over the treatment of opposition in the Lok Sabha. Targeting Speaker Om Birla, she asserted that his role as House guardian demands protection for all sides, especially the opposition.
‘We’re witnessing opposition being gagged inside the House, with the Leader of Opposition stopped repeatedly,’ Hasan observed. In detailed remarks, she underscored the Leader’s stature as shadow Prime Minister and the sanctity of debates. ‘Keeping democracy alive through questions falls on the Speaker. Opposition pleads for his cover and speaking slots.’
The budget session drew sharp ire: no discussions permitted, allegedly to conceal government failures. ‘Post-budget, we deserve interrogation time, but it’s denied. Government seems bent on throttling democracy—let discussions flow so we can speak.’
On Uttar Pradesh, Hasan decried support for power-adjacent figures. ‘BJP-linked get VIP status, law and order ridiculed. I trust UP public will punish BJP in 2027 elections.’
These pointed criticisms highlight deepening divides, pressing for Speaker intervention to restore balance and democratic vitality.
