Passengers arriving at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) this festive season will benefit from a newly opened Yatri Suvidha Kendra, as announced by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. This advanced facility is built to manage the anticipated increase in passenger volume, promising a more comfortable journey. The permanent holding area can host approximately 7,000 passengers simultaneously, significantly improving the pre-departure experience and streamlining movement. The Kendra’s intelligent design features three separate zones: a substantial 2,860 sqm dedicated to ticketing, a 1,150 sqm area for post-ticketing services, and a 1,218 sqm space for pre-ticketing needs. This division is crucial for reducing bottlenecks and enhancing overall passenger satisfaction at the main entry point. Modern conveniences abound, with Northern Railway installing 22 ticketing counters, 25 ATVMs, ample seating for 200 passengers, and 18 HVLS fans for optimal temperature control. The project’s successful completion involved intricate demolition and relocation of existing structures and utilities, all managed to avoid operational interruptions. A key infrastructure enhancement is the extended Foot Over Bridge 1 (FOB 1), which now offers direct access to the Metro Station, thereby boosting multimodal transit options and alleviating platform congestion. This development complements the recent Rs 1,866 crore Productivity Linked Bonus approved for railway staff nationwide.
