Kanungo aired his views on X, acknowledging the assault complaint against a female influencer at DU. ‘We’re acting on it—the hoodlums will meet justice per law. Women’s respect cannot be compromised,’ he asserted.
The scuffle arose in rallies for UGC Equity Regulations 2026, awaiting Supreme Court deliberation. Post-incident, outraged students staged a vigil at North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar outpost, seeking redress for the victim.
Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, in a Saturday statement, beseeched the DU fraternity to prioritize peace. ‘I urge teachers and students alike to sustain brotherhood and abstain from discord-inducing pursuits that damage our institution’s prestige,’ he conveyed.
Deeming the episode troubling, Singh underscored DU’s role as a pan-Indian hub. ‘Social unity tops our priorities—it’s incumbent on us all,’ he said, noting consultations with groups and authorities to avert repeats.
