A 20-year-old student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, Odisha, has died after attempting self-immolation. The incident led to protests outside AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where she was being treated. The student’s death was confirmed by AIIMS Bhubaneswar. She was admitted to the Burns Centre ICU on July 12 and despite intensive care, she could not be saved. The student’s act followed alleged sexual harassment by her Head of Department, with her complaints reportedly unaddressed. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi offered condolences and pledged to ensure that those found guilty would be punished.
