In a powerful address on the solemn occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom anniversary, Congress spokesperson Kanhaiya Kumar took the BJP to task for what he called a dangerous flirtation with hate politics. From Surguja, Chhattisgarh, where non-partisan tributes to the Father of the Nation have been a fixture for years, Kumar’s words resonated amid national homage.
‘Opportunists are breeding hatred across India to prop up their influence, oblivious to the public’s growing vigilance,’ he told reporters. Gandhi’s roadmap of non-violence and truth, Kumar argued, is being undermined by a surge in divisive religious rhetoric.
Labeling contemporary strategies as ‘Godse-inspired,’ he called for perpetual remembrance of Gandhi to dismantle them. ‘Let all faiths coexist in unity, preserving our country’s indivisible spirit,’ he envisioned.
Confronting the BJP, Kumar noted their shared Indian heritage and historical awareness. ‘Cease this folly—opt for Gandhi’s path to drive genuine growth, not perpetual strife,’ he exhorted. Highlighting the futility of community conflicts for narrow gains, he emphasized that a toxic atmosphere hurts ordinary citizens most. ‘Prioritize peace for India’s prosperity and cohesion,’ Kumar demanded in closing.
