Radhakrishnan Assumes Office as India’s Vice President

The inauguration of CP Radhakrishnan as the 15th Vice President of India took place on Friday at Rashtrapati Bhavan, with President Droupadi Murmu presiding over the oath-taking ceremony. The event saw the presence of several high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and former Vice Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar, Venkaiah Naidu, and Hamid Ansari. Radhakrishnan, who is 67 years old, won the vice presidential election, surpassing Opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy. The BJP, led by JP Nadda, nominated Radhakrishnan as the NDA’s candidate. Prime Minister Modi praised Radhakrishnan for his extensive work in public service, emphasizing his commitment to empowering marginalized communities. Radhakrishnan expressed his appreciation to the NDA leadership for their confidence. Before his appointment, Radhakrishnan held the position of Governor of Maharashtra. He was also previously Governor of Jharkhand and held additional charge of Telangana. Radhakrishnan’s political career includes serving as the BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president and being associated with the RSS and Jan Sangh from a young age. He was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from the Coimbatore constituency.
