As the government revises the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Rahul Gandhi has been reposting his older tweets on social media. One tweet is from 2016, and another from 2017. The Congress party suggests that the BJP is now rectifying its past errors, while the Congress has consistently opposed the current GST framework. Rahul Gandhi’s shared tweets highlighted his call for an 18% cap on the GST rate. He had previously emphasized that the Congress would strive for a single rate with an 18% cap. In the tweets, he criticized the existing GST structure, terming it the “Gabbar Singh Tax” and called for a simpler GST system. The new GST rules, effective September 22nd, include modifications to rates, offering relief to citizens by limiting rates to 5% and 18% while eliminating the 12% and 28% slabs.
