Monday’s municipal elections in Jharkhand unfolded smoothly under paper ballots across 48 urban local bodies, where voters selected mayors, chairpersons, and ward members. BJP strongman Nishikant Dubey set an example in Deoghar, arriving with his spouse at a local polling station to fulfill their democratic obligation.
Post-voting, the couple appealed for widespread participation, but Dubey soon unleashed on the system’s drawbacks. Citing his booth’s meager 40 votes against a 750-vote target, he lambasted the Soren regime for choosing cumbersome ballots, terming it a step toward backwardness.
In a pointed attack on Rahul Gandhi’s EVM skepticism, Dubey predicted a reality check. ‘Once Jharkhand’s civic poll tallies emerge, Rahul will see BJP wins with or without EVMs – ballot boxes confirm our supremacy,’ he stated emphatically.
Dubey also ridiculed Congress’s recent antics at an AI event, accusing them of indecent displays akin to the party’s stripped-down integrity. ‘Their naked aggression in protests matches their political nudity,’ he remarked.
As queues persisted through the day, these elections highlight Jharkhand’s evolving urban politics. Ballots may slow the count, but they amplify every citizen’s voice. For BJP, a sweep here would not only fortify local control but also neutralize opposition’s tech-based grievances nationwide.
