Tuesday brought cheers to anti-corruption warriors in Bihar as the state Vigilance Bureau pulled off back-to-back raids. Officials from Supaul and Samastipur districts—a survey amin and supply officer—were arrested while pocketing bribes, exposing deep-rooted malpractices in local administration.
Supaul’s Muraina block survey amin Vikram Kumar Ram fell first. Jagnarayan Yadav from Khorma village had flagged Ram’s Rs 20,000 demand for clearing land survey backlogs. Post-checks, DSP Narendra Kumar’s team laid the trap at Ram’s rented flat in Nirmali Nagar Panchayat Ward 1, securing the bribe on spot.
Not resting, another unit targeted Ujiyarpur’s Rajesh Kumar Bhagat, block supply officer in Samastipur. Bhagat allegedly wanted Rs 10,000 for additional PDS food quotas. Verified intel led to a home raid, clinching the arrest.
FIRs logged at vigilance station pave the way for court proceedings after grilling. The bureau’s annual tally now reads 17 arrests and over Rs 7 lakh recovered, a testament to sustained vigilance that aims to purge bribery from Bihar’s public dealings.
