Amid rising urban congestion and rule flouting, Gujarat’s administration is enforcing order through advanced surveillance. The Safe Gujarat Campaign blankets busy roads with CCTV, monitored from high-tech centers that automate traffic oversight and digital fines.
Real-life impacts are evident. Ravindra Patel from Ahmedabad’s Bopal overlooked his helmet heading to his store; e-challan issued, paid instantly at cyber control. Vyomesh Babulal, post e-memo delivery, rectified his violation in a two-minute office visit, pledging better conduct.
Backed by PM Modi’s Digital India and CM Patel’s leadership, the e-challan system and portal have boosted enforcement. Revenue from fines hit Rs 153.78 crore in 2023, Rs 195.87 crore in 2024, and Rs 231 crore in 2025—surpassing Rs 581 crore. Over 1.45 crore challans, 85.71 lakh in 2025 (mostly online), Ahmedabad topping at 40.20 lakh.
Traffic DCP Naresh Kanjaria highlights: ‘Digital tools were essential for Ahmedabad. E-challans via control rooms nab violators on the spot—no helmets, wrong lanes, poor parking.’ CCTV bolsters broader security, aiding accident probes and crime watch.
The core goal? Road safety, not funds. Cameras reveal crash hotspots for immediate help, curbing fatalities. Gujarat’s forward-thinking traffic strategy is awakening drivers to responsibilities, paving the way for orderly, accident-free travel across the state.
