In an effort to combat Bengaluru’s worsening traffic problems, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reached out to Wipro’s founder-chairman, Azim Premji. The core of the request involves exploring the possibility of allowing some vehicles to traverse the Wipro campus to ease congestion, specifically at the Iblur junction on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The letter, dated September 19, underscores the detrimental impact of peak-hour traffic on residents’ mobility, work efficiency, and the general urban environment. Siddaramaiah’s proposition calls for a carefully managed plan, dependent on the consent of both parties and the establishment of necessary safety protocols. Traffic and urban mobility experts suggest that allowing vehicles to pass through the Wipro campus could significantly reduce traffic congestion by up to 30% during peak office hours along the ORR. The Chief Minister has appealed for cooperation from Wipro and requested immediate discussions with government authorities to devise a joint strategy. This collaboration is seen as a crucial step towards improving the quality of life in Bengaluru.
