Punjab’s roads, once synonymous with danger, have undergone a remarkable transformation. The Bhagwant Mann-led government introduced the Road Safety Force (SSF) and the ‘Farishatey’ (Angels) Scheme, with the aim of curbing the alarming rate of road accidents. The SSF, established in 2024, has teams strategically positioned along major roads, equipped with modern vehicles and technology. The primary function of SSF teams is to prevent accidents and assist in combating criminal activities. Simultaneously, the ‘Farishatey’ scheme addresses the critical need for immediate medical aid by encouraging bystanders to offer help without fear of legal repercussions. The scheme offers free medical treatment to accident victims and rewards those who assist, fostering a sense of community responsibility. The combined impact of these two schemes includes a reduction in road accident fatalities and a significant decrease in overall accident rates. The government’s efforts also include integrating women into the SSF, showcasing a commitment to societal progress.
