Friday’s observance of Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom day brought Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to Bapu Ghat, the poignant Hyderabad landmark where Gandhi’s ashes were consigned to the Musi-Esi confluence.
A constellation of Congress figures participated: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, TPCC head Mahesh Kumar Goud, ex-MP V. Hanumantha Rao, and others offered flowers and joined multi-faith invocations, later garlanding Gandhi’s statue.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy portrayed Bapu as a revolutionary soul who illuminated new resistance paradigms for the world. Digital tributes followed from BRS’s KT Rama Rao, who on X celebrated Gandhi’s satyagraha, urging emulation of his honesty, bravery, empathy, and harmony-building ethos.
K. Kavitha from Telangana Jagruti renewed vows to Gandhi’s timeless tenets of ahimsa, truth, compassion, and patriotism. Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer deemed Gandhi’s sacrifice an everlasting emblem of service, guiding India and beyond toward peace and moral power.
CM N. Chandrababu Naidu credited Gandhi’s non-violence for national unity and independence, imploring daily adherence to truth, ahimsa, peace, service—while realizing Swadeshi, female upliftment, village autonomy, and poverty’s end through devoted efforts.
This cross-party pilgrimage to Bapu Ghat reaffirms Gandhi’s pervasive influence. It challenges today’s leaders to integrate his wisdom into policies addressing division, injustice, and development, ensuring his legacy endures.
