According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a total of 1,563 Indian citizens have been deported from the United States as of July 16, 2024. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, during a press briefing, confirmed the figures, noting that most of the deportees had arrived in the US on commercial flights. Discussions surrounding a trade agreement between India and the US are ongoing, with the MEA indicating that information will be released once a deal is finalized. The MEA also addressed two separate cases involving Indian nationals: one arrested for alleged shoplifting and another for alleged possession of child pornography, emphasizing the importance of following local laws.
