India’s Parliament convenes for its Winter Session today, poised to address a substantial legislative pipeline. The government is gearing up to present a variety of bills, aiming for swift passage. However, the session is also anticipated to be dominated by Opposition concerns. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across several states is a key issue expected to be raised, alongside the alarming decline in air quality affecting Delhi.
Discussions are also anticipated around allegations of electoral irregularities and recent security incidents. To facilitate a cooperative atmosphere, the government hosted an all-party meeting, bringing together 50 leaders from 36 political parties to foster understanding and collaboration. Opposition parties, such as the Congress, are also actively strategizing to effectively articulate their positions during the session. The legislative proceedings are set to conclude on December 19th, making this a critical period for national policy and debate.
