Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. AAP released a list of 29 candidates for Madhya Pradesh and 12 for Chhattisgarh. Aam Aadmi Party posted separate lists of both the states on social media platform ‘X’. AAP wrote- Major announcement. Who got the chance in Chhattisgarh?
Candidates for 12 seats of Chhattisgarh Assembly have been declared in the list released by Aam Aadmi Party’s National Organization General Secretary Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Chhattisgarh State President Komal Hupendi and State Incharge Sanjeev Jha. Party state unit treasurer Jasbir Singh and Raipur councilor Tarun Vaidya have been included in the list. Of the 12 seats for which the party has released the list of candidates, four seats are reserved for ST candidates and two for the Scheduled Caste category.
Who was chosen from Raipur and Bilaspur?
Tarun Vaidya from Raipur Rural and Nandan Singh from Raipur West will contribute two each. Dr. Ujjwala Karade will contest from Bilaspur. Raja Ram Shyam from Pratappur, Dev Prasad Kosle from Sarangarh, Vijay Jaiswal from Kharsia, Pankaj James from Kota, Jasbir Singh from Bilha, Dharamdas Bhargava from Masturi, Sant Ram Salam from Antagarh, Jugal Kishore Bodh from Keskal and Bomda Ram Mandavi from Chitrakot. Has been fielded in the election.
AAP’s election record in Chhattisgarh
According to the report of news agency PTI, AAP had tried its luck for the first time in Chhattisgarh Assembly elections 2018 and had fielded its candidates on 85 out of total 90 seats, but was not successful. In the 2018 elections, none of your candidates were successful in saving their deposits. The election schedule for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly has not been announced by the Election Commission yet. The party had announced the first list of ten candidates last month.
Purpose of emerging as an alternative
In Chhattisgarh, the main contest has been between two parties, Congress and BJP. In the 2018 elections in the state, former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi’s party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) and BSP had contested the elections in alliance. The alliance had got seven seats. In the 2018 elections, Congress got 68 seats and BJP got 15 seats. Congress currently has 71 MLAs in the state. AAP is trying to get a better position in this year’s elections because JCC (J) is marginalized after the death of Ajit Jogi in 2020.
Who got the opportunity from Madhya Pradesh?
Aam Aadmi Party released its second list for Madhya Pradesh elections late on Monday night. It includes names of 29 candidates. Mohammad Saud has been given a chance from Bhopal North, Anurag Yadav from Indore-1 seat, Piyush Joshi from Indore-4 seat. Ramani Devi Jatav from Bhander seat, Rahul Kushwaha from Bhind and Satendra Bhadauria from Mehgaon have been fielded. Engineer Deepak Singh Patel has been given a chance from Rewa seat, Vijay Mohan Pala from Patan seat and Anup Goyal from Shivpuri seat.
Keep an eye on Congress’ stance
It is noteworthy that Aam Aadmi Party has released its second list at a time when a lot of speculations were being made about the opposition INDIA alliance. It was being said that the opposition parties could unite and contest the assembly elections. Please note that till now no list has been released by Congress in both the states. In such a situation, eyes are fixed on the stand of Congress. It remains to be seen whether Congress comes with an alliance for the assembly elections or decides to contest the elections on its own.
