KL Rahul, who batted brilliantly against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, said after the match that he had every hope of getting a place in the playing eleven and he tried to play well as a wicketkeeper batsman. Rahul has made a good comeback after the injury and scored a century in the match against Pakistan.
KL Rahul was nervous
Rahul made a comeback in the Super Four match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and scored an unbeaten 111 runs. This was his first match for India since March. After this he also took the responsibility of wicketkeeper. In the next match against Sri Lanka also, he played both the roles well. “I am happy with my performance in the last two matches,” Rahul said in a press conference after India’s 41-run win against Sri Lanka. Initially I was a little nervous but after facing a few balls I started feeling good.
There was hope of getting a place in the playing eleven.
Rahul worked hard during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which helped him make a successful comeback. He said, I was thinking that I would get a place in the playing eleven and I had prepared in the same way. I was confident that I could perform my roles well on behalf of the team. The team management had clearly told KL Rahul that he would have to play the role of a middle-order batsman as well as a wicketkeeper. Rahul said, the team management had told me about my roles that I would have to bat in the middle order and also play the role of wicketkeeper.
Also playing the role of wicketkeeper
Rahul said that after the clear message from the team management, he had also practiced wicketkeeping adequately at the NCA. He said, I have been playing the role of wicketkeeper for the last two years. So this is not a new thing for me. I started wicketkeeping against Australia in 2019 when Rishabh Pant got injured. I also worked on my wicketkeeping with the coach at NCA. Hopefully I will continue to play both my roles well.
Kuldeep Yadav praised
Rahul also praised Kuldeep Yadav, India’s highest wicket taker in ODIs this year, who has returned as a better bowler after some changes in his technique. Rahul said, I am really enjoying his bowling. He has made some changes in his bowling due to which he is getting good results. We keep talking about the strategy to get the batsman out in the middle of the game. His rhythm in the last two matches was also excellent.
Sri Lanka’s Vijayarath stopped
After defeating the Sri Lankan team on Tuesday, India has made its place in the final. The bowlers performed brilliantly under the leadership of Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep Yadav himself took four wickets of the opposing team. Kuldeep took four wickets for 43 runs in 9.3 overs while Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah got two successes while Mohammad Siraj and Hardik Pandya got one success each. India, batting first, after scoring 213 runs in 49.1 overs, bundled out Sri Lanka’s innings for 172 runs in 41.3 overs. With this, Sri Lanka had to taste defeat in ODIs after 13 consecutive wins. Dunith Velalage’s all-round game did not prove to be enough for Sri Lanka. Man of the match Velalage played an unbeaten inning of 42 runs after taking five wickets. Sri Lanka had lost six wickets for 99 runs while chasing the target but Velalage and Dhananjay de Silva (41) kept the hopes alive for the team by making a partnership of 63 runs in 75 balls but after the break of this partnership, India did not face much trouble.
