Bureau, New Delhi: Kudmis from Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha demonstrated at Jantar Mantar on Friday demanding inclusion of the society in the Scheduled Tribe category.
Thousands of Kudmis who came said that our demand for inclusion in Scheduled Tribe is very old. Many letters were written to the Central and State Governments in this regard, but our years-old demand has not been fulfilled.
This demonstration was organized under the banner of Purvanchal Tribal Kudmi Samaj. The protesters demand that the Kudmis of Chhotanagpur area are dependent on agriculture and the economic condition of the society is quite pathetic. Besides, the level of education is also low.
In Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha no one from Kudmi community is in IAS or IPS or Grade-A. Not only this, this class is also not represented in the administrative services of these states. People of the society hold the posts of clerks and teachers in primary and secondary schools.
Purvanchal tribal Kudmi community has written a letter to the Home Minister demanding reservation. It has been said in the letter that the Kudmi community of these states has lagged behind economically and socially due to not being included in the Scheduled Tribe category.
A demand has been made to the Home Minister that instead of adopting a new process for inclusion in the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes list of 1931 should be considered.
