Voters list is being updated for the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. An awareness campaign is being run among the people by the administration. At the same time, door-to-door campaign is being conducted so that no voter is left out. Meanwhile, an old man is in the headlines. In Naxal-affected Kanker district, a 93-year-old man has become a voter for the first time in his life. In fact, till date the old man’s name was not in the voter list. According to the old man, he has not voted in any election till now and in the upcoming assembly elections, he will exercise his franchise for the first time in his life.
The name of the non-elderly has been added to the voter list during the door-to-door campaign launched in the district under the leadership of Kanker District Collector Priyanka Shukla. Sher Singh Hedko (93), resident of village Bhainsakanhar under Bhanupratappur assembly constituency, will vote for the first time in this assembly election. Even after many years had passed, his name was not added to the list. Errors in documents can also be a possible reason for this.
The family members of 93 year old Hedko said that they are very excited after his name was added to the voter list. Due to age he is unable to even speak properly.
Kanker District Magistrate Priyanka Shukla said that a voter awareness campaign is being run in the district. Under this initiative, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door campaigns to enroll the names of eligible persons left out in the voter list. Under the same initiative, BLO Rajendra Kosma, who had gone to register the name of Sher Singh’s grandson, came to know that the name of the non-veteran has also not been added to the list and he has not exercised his franchise even once. . After this, Sher Singh’s formalities were completed.
The District Magistrate said, “It is a remarkable achievement of our BLOs that they contacted those people who were left out of the voter list due to some reasons, went door-to-door and ensured that their names were added.”
Apart from this, names of many senior citizens in Antagarh and Bhanupratappur blocks have also been added this time. The District Magistrate has given credit to the team of BLO, ERO (Electoral Registration Officer) and SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) for taking the campaign in the right direction and making it successful.
