Under-19 World Cup Schedule: The International Cricket Council (ICC) made a big announcement regarding the Under-19 World Cup to be held next year. ICC has revealed its schedule. It will begin on January 13 with hosts Sri Lanka taking on Zimbabwe. The tournament will be held in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4. 16 teams will participate in the 15th edition of the competition. This will be the third time that Sri Lanka is hosting the tournament. This will happen for the first time since 2006. Reigning champions India, who won the 2022 edition in the West Indies, will begin their campaign against 2020 champions Bangladesh next day.
41 match tournament
According to the information, the 41-match tournament will be played at 5 venues for 23 days. All will be in Colombo. Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium will host the tournament opener on January 30 and February 1, the semi-finals and the final on February 4. P Sara Oval, Colombo Cricket Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club and Sinhalese Sports Club will be the other venues for this. The top 11 teams qualified directly for the 2022 edition. While five teams Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Scotland and the United States made it through regional qualification.
ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley said on the occasion, “We are thrilled to see the competition return to Sri Lanka for the first time since 2006.” He said- “Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Angelo Mathews are some of the names who entered the world stage through this program. We are sure this tradition will continue.” Tournament Director Samantha Doddonwella said- “Sri Lanka is renowned for its passionate, cricket-loving fans. We are looking forward to seeing the world’s most promising young cricketers in 23 days.

This time there will be ‘Super Six’ format
Along with this, ICC has also announced the new format. The 16 teams will initially be divided into 4 groups of four each. 12 teams will qualify in the first round instead of 8. The Super 6 will have two groups of six teams each, with the top 4 teams advancing to the semi-finals.

Each team will play two practice matches at four venues between January 7 and 11. India is the most successful team in this tournament with five titles. After that is Australia with three titles. Pakistan has won twice. Whereas England, Bangladesh, South Africa and West Indies have won the title once each.
