This time also the issue of paddy purchase and bonus is going to be the most prominent issue in Chhattisgarh assembly elections. There are preparations to include this issue in the manifestos of both BJP and Congress. BJP is first waiting for the manifesto of Congress, so that it can overtake it in promises and maintain its lead. In this, increasing the support price of paddy, bonus on purchase and farmer loan waiver are the main ones. Currently, there is a Congress government in Chhattisgarh and along with claiming to fulfill its previous promises, it is also making new promises. Also, responsibility is being put on the Center for the promises that have not been fulfilled.
BJP claims that the central government has procured the paddy. Because, the quota for paddy purchase is decided by the Centre. In such a situation, this time also procurement of paddy is going to be a big issue. Both BJP and Congress are talking about increasing the support price of paddy. At present the support price is Rs 2640 per quintal. Both the parties are also claiming that if they come to power, the purchase of paddy will be increased to 20 quintals per acre. At present this figure is 15 quintals per acre. Apart from this, another issue is the bonus on purchase of paddy. That is, additional amount will be given by the state government along with purchase at support price. In 2013, BJP’s Raman Singh government had promised a bonus of Rs 300 per quintal. Whereas, in the last elections, Congress had promised a bonus of Rs 600 per quintal. In such a situation, announcement of bonus can become a big factor in this election also.
According to sources, BJP may release its election manifesto after Congress, so that it can make announcement ahead of Congress.
BJP will release manifesto soon
The first phase of elections in Chhattisgarh is on November 7. Sources say that BJP may release its election manifesto on November 4 or 5. Last month, BJP had issued a charge sheet against the Congress government of Chhattisgarh. Now, in the manifesto, she will go ahead and present her future road map before the public as to how she will provide more benefits to the people if she comes to power.
