Ravichandran Ashwin Team India squad: The squad of the Indian team has been announced for the One Day World Cup (ODI World Cup 2023) to be played from October 5. However, changes can be made in it till September 27. Akshar Patel got injured during the Asia Cup and there is doubt over his playing the World Cup, due to which the team is looking for a good all-rounder in his place. Who it will be has not been finalized yet but captain Rohit has given a big hint.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has said after the Asia Cup final that he is in touch with several players, including veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, for possible changes to the final World Cup 2023 squad.
Injuries to Shreyas Iyer and fresh setbacks to Axar Patel mean Rohit’s team will have to look elsewhere to fill those positions if the pair are not fit for the World Cup. It has been confirmed that Akshar will miss at least the first two ODIs of the upcoming Australia series. In such a situation, there are expectations of change in the team.
Ashwin is also in line for spin all-rounder- Rohit
In the press conference after India’s stunning 10-wicket win in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka, Rohit expressed his respect for Ashwin and Washington Sundar for the role of spin-bowling all-rounder.
“With spin-bowling all-rounders, I think everyone is in line,” he said. To be honest, (I am) talking to Ashwin also, I am talking to him on the phone. That’s why he is in line. That’s why there is Vashi. We want people who can perform well with the ball and bat as well.”
Ashwin’s career record
Ashwin has played a total of 113 ODI matches for Team India, in which he has taken 151 wickets. Ashwin was a part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team. Currently, the only member of the team that lifted the trophy 12 years ago is Virat Kohli who is part of the 2023 World Cup squad. Ashwin also played in the 2015 World Cup. Ashwin has also played both the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups after being out of the Indian white ball team for a long time.
