What is Nipah virus?

Nipah virus spreads through the saliva of bats. This infection spreads to humans by eating fruits eaten by bats. Its infection also occurs from human to human. It can spread from an infected member to other family members.

Nipah virus symptoms

Symptoms of Nipah virus start appearing in two to three days. Its initial symptoms include fever and headache.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan posted the information

“Nipah virus infection has been confirmed in Kozhikode district,” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a Facebook post. Due to this two people died. Of the four people whose samples were sent for testing, Nipah infection has been confirmed in two, while the reports of two have come negative. He said, “There is no need to panic.” Everyone should strictly follow the instructions of the health department and police and fully cooperate with the restrictions.

What did State Health Minister Veena George tell?

Speaking to reporters in Kozhikode, State Health Minister Veena George said that a nine-year-old boy was also among those infected with Nipah. He said, “The infection has been confirmed in the samples of the person who died yesterday and two other people undergoing treatment, including a nine-year-old boy.” George said that apart from this, the infection was reported in the first case on August 30. One person died due to the disease, which was initially thought to be due to co-morbidity of liver cirrhosis.
