The elite field for the 2024 ATP Finals is taking shape, with Alexander Zverev becoming the fourth singles player to secure his spot. The two-time ATP Finals champion’s qualification was confirmed on Friday when he advanced to the Vienna semi-finals, a milestone that also benefited from Tallon Griekspoor’s withdrawal.
This marks Zverev’s eighth qualification for the prestigious year-end championships, a remarkable achievement he will be looking to build on at the Inalpi Arena from November 9th-16th. He will compete alongside fellow qualifiers Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and the dominant Novak Djokovic.
Zverev’s consistent form throughout the season has been instrumental. He began the year strongly with a run to the Australian Open final and captured his 24th career ATP Tour trophy on home soil in Munich. Further strong showings included a final appearance in Stuttgart and semi-final berths at the ATP Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati, all contributing to his high ranking in the ATP Live Race To Turin.
His history at the ATP Finals is impressive. Since the event moved to Turin in 2021, Zverev boasts a 9-3 record, with notable resilience shown in close matches. Overall, he holds a 17-10 win-loss record at the tournament. His past successes include victorious campaigns in 2018 and 2021, making him one of the few active players with multiple ATP Finals titles. He has also reached the semi-finals on two previous occasions. The race continues for the remaining four singles positions, with Fritz currently positioned to be the next qualifier.
