Sports Desk. India’s star tennis player Sumit Nagal has created history with his explosive performance in the first round of the Australian Open 2024. He has made it to the second round of Australian Open for the first time in his career by defeating Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in straight sets. Nagal achieved this feat on Tuesday, when he entered the second round of the Australian Open for the first time in his singles career. Nagal, the highest ranked Indian player in tennis, caused a major upset by defeating world number 27 Bublik in the first round of the Australian Open. He gave the credit of his victory to Indian cricket star Virat Kohli.
Let us tell you that after the victory, Nagal said that he sometimes talks to Kohli. He said that it is difficult for him to imagine what his life would have been like if Kohli had not helped him in his time of need. I talk to him sometimes. I am also a part of his foundation. I would like to thank them for the support I have received over the years. You know which Indian would not like to watch cricket? I follow cricket and watch it whenever I get a chance.
Nagal is a part of star cricketer Kohli’s foundation and in the year 2019, he had said how it had helped him in his difficult times. At that time, Nagal did not have enough money to even book a flight ticket to participate in the tournament. He said that Kohli’s foundation has been supporting me since 2017. I was not performing well for the last two years and was facing shortage of money. If Kohli had not supported me, I don’t know what I would have had. This is Nagal’s first win over a seeded player in a Grand Slam for an Indian men’s singles player in 34 years. Earlier, Ramesh Krishna had defeated Mats Wilander in the 1989 Australian Open. Bublik has got the 31st seed this year while Nagal is the 137th ranked player.
