Mumbai Indians New Head Coach: Mumbai Indians (MI), one of the most successful teams of the world’s largest cricket league, Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced a major change by issuing a press release before IPL 2025. The franchise has appointed Paras Mhambrey, who led India to win the T20 World Cup in 2024 as the bowling coach of the team. Mhambrey will take up this big responsibility along with veteran Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga. The team recently appointed Mahela Jayawardene as head coach. The franchise has recently issued a press release giving this information.
It is noteworthy that former bowling coach of the Indian team, Paras Mhambrey has already been a part of the coaching staff of Mumbai Indians for four years. Now he has got a chance to return to the team again and take on a bigger responsibility. Mhambrey will also participate in the mega auction to be held later this year. For the last 12 years, he has coached Maharashtra, Bengal, Baroda and Vidarbha. Apart from this, he has also been the bowling coach for India-A team.
Paras Mhambrey’s cricket career
Paras Mhambrey has played 91 first class matches for Mumbai. During this period he took 284 wickets at an average of 24.36. After this, on the England tour in 1996, he played 2 Test and 3 ODI matches for India, in which he took 2 Test wickets and 3 ODI wickets respectively.
Mumbai Indians’ performance was disappointing last season
The performance of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 was quite disappointing. Captain Hardik Pandya was not in form throughout the season, while experienced batsman Rohit Sharma also failed to perform consistently. The dispute between the two regarding captaincy also spoiled the atmosphere of the team, which affected their game. MI won only 4 matches in the entire season and lost 10 matches, due to which the team finished last in the points table.
