Ticket touts plotting to cash in on T20 World Cup 2026 mania faced a rude awakening in Ahmedabad. Crime Branch personnel arrested two men red-handed near Usmanpura bus stand, recovering eight coveted final tickets for the India-New Zealand showdown at Narendra Modi Stadium.
Caught during routine surveillance at Gujarat Vidyapith ST Peak area, the suspects confessed to booking tickets online and reselling them at inflated prices—Rs 10,000 per ticket, triple the official rate—a day prior to the Sunday spectacle.
Police have impounded the tickets, filed charges, and launched a wider investigation to root out any organized gang behind the scam.
India’s World Cup journey: One loss to South Africa in Super 8s, followed by a commanding semi-final victory over England by seven wickets. New Zealand notched two losses, one abandonment, and a semi-final masterclass dismantling South Africa by nine wickets.
Overall T20 record: India 16-11 over New Zealand in 30 games (3 ties). But in World Cups, Kiwis lead 3-0—a hoodoo India aims to break emphatically.
