The ICC is implementing a series of rule changes designed to modernize and refine cricket. Test cricket will now feature a stop clock, penalizing teams that take longer than 60 seconds to start the next over. In ODIs, the fielding team will now choose one ball for the final overs. Boundary catch rules have been amended to ensure fielders maintain contact within the boundary. The DRS wicket zone has been adjusted, and the rules around deliberate short runs clarified. A new wide ball trial will consider the batter’s leg position at the point of delivery. Concussion protocols have also been updated, including the requirement for designated replacement players. These changes, recommended by the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, are aimed at enhancing the game’s appeal, speed, and safety. The new rules came into effect in June for Test matches and will be rolled out in July for ODIs and T20Is.
