Islamabad. India defeated Pakistan’s doubles team 6-2, 6(7)-6(5) in the ongoing Davis Cup World Group 1 playoff match in Islamabad and won the tournament 3-0. India continued its winning streak against arch-rival Pakistan and registered its eighth win in Davis Cup history. In the important doubles match played on Sunday, Pakistan’s pair of Akil Khan and Muzammil failed to pose a big threat against the Indian pair of Saketh Myneni and Yuki Myneni. Earlier on Saturday, in singles, Akil had lost against Sriram Balaji in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, while Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4). Gave a great start to his team by defeating him 6-0.

After the match, Ramanathan said, ‘This will be a special victory for me because we are in Pakistan. It is not easy to win. Aisam slowed down the game while serving. It was not easy, but I was totally excited,” Ramanathan said after the win over Aisam. Qureshi had said, ‘Indian team reaching Pakistan is already a victory for me. I am happy and proud to be a part of this and that tennis can play an important role in improving relations with India.

Indian tennis team captain Zeeshan Ali described coming to Pakistan as “emotional”. He said that 60 years ago when India played the last match against Pakistan, my father was in the team and they played three matches, in which they won. It is an emotional moment for me to come back to Pakistan as the captain of the Indian team. Ali said that he hopes that this match will prove to be positive for tennis.
