New Delhi. Former fast bowler Dodda Ganesh, who represented India and Karnataka, has been removed from the post of head coach of the Kenya men’s cricket team. This decision has been taken just a month after being appointed to this post in December. Ganesh, who played four Tests and only one ODI for India during his playing career, had signed a one-year contract with the Kenya Cricket Board.

According to a report published on nation.africa, Cricket Kenya’s executive board has declared that Ganesh’s appointment was done improperly. Perlene Omami, director of women’s cricket for Cricket Kenya, signed the letter on behalf of other board members.

The letter said. “As per the resolution passed by the Executive Board of Cricket Kenya on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, and under Articles 5.9 and 8.4.3 of the Cricket Kenya Constitution, we wish to inform you that the Executive Board has refused to approve your appointment as the Head Coach of the Men’s Cricket National Team due to non-compliance with established procedures,”

“The alleged contract entered into between Manoj Patel and you on 7th August, 2024 is hereby cancelled. As per the above, Cricket Kenya is not and shall not be bound by the said alleged contract.”

“You are therefore directed to cease any relationship or transaction with the men’s national cricket team with immediate effect. Any concerns or claims relating to this notice should be directed to Manoj Patel and any other person who has irregularly and non-procedurally contacted you in this regard,”

Former international player Lameck Onyango has been appointed the new head coach of the Kenya men’s team following the sudden departure of Ganesh. Onyango will be assisted by another former international player Joseph Angara.

The newly appointed coaching duo will immediately begin preparations for the upcoming ICC Division 2 Challenge League, which is scheduled to take place in Nairobi this September. In the tournament, Kenya will face Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark and Jersey.

The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B tournament will take place from 17-26 October in Nairobi, where Kenya will face Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Mozambique, Seychelles and Gambia.
