The passage of the Online Gaming Bill on Wednesday has raised questions about the Dream11 sponsorship of the Indian cricket team. The BCCI is taking a careful look at the new law and its effect on existing sponsorships. Devajit Saikia, the BCCI Secretary, indicated that the board is dedicated to following the law. He also mentioned that the BCCI will evaluate how the bill impacts its agreement with Dream11. The BCCI has a history of compliance with government regulations, such as previous bans on alcohol and tobacco advertising. If the sponsorship is not allowed under the new rules, the BCCI will not proceed with it. The current sponsorship deal with Dream11, an online gaming platform, covers both men’s and women’s cricket teams and is worth INR 358 crore. The agreement began in July 2023 and lasts until March 2026, including branding rights for all formats of the game.
