D Gukesh’s struggles continued at the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025 as he suffered a third straight loss. This time, the Indian Grandmaster was defeated by Ediz Gurel, a 16-year-old chess talent from Turkey, in Round 7. Gukesh had previously lost to Abhimanyu Mishra and Nikolas Theodorou. The game between Gukesh and Gurel was closely contested. Despite a slight blunder by Gurel on move 27, the game remained tense. After exchanging queens on move 29, Gukesh’s position deteriorated after move 40, and he made a critical error. He sacrificed a bishop for two pawns, a strategic decision that proved costly. Gukesh conceded the game, appearing devastated by his third consecutive loss. Gurel was pleased with his victory, calling the match a ‘crazy tough game.’ He also expressed his respect for Gukesh.
