Authorities have arrested Waqas Ali, a suspect in a scheme to smuggle Pakistani citizens to Japan using fake football credentials. The FIA investigation revealed that Ali arranged short-term visas for 17 people, falsely claiming they were members of a football team. The visa applications included fabricated documents, such as a forged letter from the Pakistan Football Federation and a fake NOC. The group traveled to Japan on January 1, 2024, and their continued absence has led to concerns about unauthorized immigration. The operation exploited sports exchanges and cultural tours to evade scrutiny, and each participant allegedly paid a substantial sum. This case highlights the financial scale of black-market migration networks that utilize sports branding to conceal illegal activities. This is not the first time such an attempt has been made.
