Mouma Das, born in Kolkata’s Narkeldanga on January 24, 1984, credits her father Prabeer Das for her table tennis odyssey. His passion for sports introduced her young, and soon, the paddle became her weapon of choice. Overcoming scarcity with sweat and strategy, she rose to become India’s table tennis luminary.
Her hallmark is an offensive prowess backed by razor-sharp reflexes and placement mastery, thriving in singles and doubles. The 2000 Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk yielded her inaugural international gold, setting the tone. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, her prowess secured team silver for India.
She’s a record-holder with 17 World Table Tennis Championship appearances, from Manchester 1997 through Bremen, Guangzhou, to Dusseldorf 2017, equaling an Asian benchmark. In Commonwealths, she garnered team bronze (2006), silver (2010), doubles bronze (2010), team gold, and doubles silver (2018). South Asian Games golds in team, singles, and doubles further embellish her resume.
