A new era dawns for Indian amateur boxing as the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) achieves full membership with the International Boxing Association (IBA). Approved by the IBA Board on February 6, 2026, the news was shared officially from Lausanne on February 9.
In his letter to IABF’s Rakesh Mishra, IBA President Umar Kremlev showered praise on the federation’s sport commitment, transparent operations, and international compliance. ‘Heartfelt congratulations on this achievement,’ he said. ‘Your standards have earned you a key role in the IBA community, and we eagerly await your impactful collaboration.’
Kremlev stressed that IABF’s engagement would vitalize global boxing development, with India infusing new momentum. Full status means official access to IBA’s international calendar, paving the way for enduring partnerships.
IABF President Mishra termed it transformative, promising elite training, technical aid, and global exposure for boxers. Secretary General Rakesh Thakran aligned it with PM Narendra Modi’s Olympic aspirations, detailing grassroots scouting and training overhauls for upcoming Games.
Emphasizing Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s leadership, Thakran vowed comprehensive growth strategies to bolster Indian representation abroad, targeting Olympic podiums and beyond.
